Opening on September 12: “Pulse,” a Pop-Up Exhibition by 125 Space
125 Space is delighted to present Pulse; an exhibition that brings together three contemporary artists whose practices unite in a shared conviction: that colour is not merely a formal choice, but an active force capable of generating energy, evoking memory, and transforming how we perceive the world around us.
Colour is never neutral. It arrives with attitude, with history, with a pulse that beats independently of what it sits upon. The exhibition opens with a celebratory pop-up at a stunning new seaside location for the first time: the Aphrodite Amathusia Cultural Centre. A new exciting project directly on the coast, this venue provides the perfect backdrop for works that are filled with vibrant energy and transformative power.
Tony Green reimagines the rugged mythology of the American West through explosive, tropical palettes and spontaneous linework. Cowboy and rodeo figures - traditionally rendered in sombre earth tones - are displaced into humid, saturated environments, where they coexist with feminine figurative elements and rhythmic repetition. Working in acrylics, inks, soft pastels, and oil pastels on canvas, Green's layered compositions capture the kinetic energy of the rodeo, while dismantling its stoic conventions. Humour and liberation course through every piece. Since graduating from Central Saint Martins in 2010, Green has collaborated with Selfridges, L'Oréal, Smythson of Bond Street, and luxury brands such as Prada and JACQUEMUS. His most recent collaboration was with Lanvin Paris for their SS2026 collection. He has showcased his paintings globally, and many are part of collections worldwide.
Laxmi Hussain navigates the territory between abstraction and figuration, presenting the organic forms of the body through intricately ordered patterns and finely detailed linework. Her background in architecture informs the precision of her mark-making, yet her subjects - the body as vessel, the tenderness of motherhood, the shapes encountered in everyday life - demand a fluidity and warmth that the discipline could not contain. Hussain works predominantly in one colour: a strong blue deployed as an act of remembrance and homage to her late mother. Through this chromatic tribute, her practice becomes a celebration of motherhood itself; the woman, the loss and the bond with one’s own children. Working across multiple media, often incorporating deliberate elements of incompleteness, Hussain obliges viewers to pause, engage, and fill in the absences themselves. Her exhibitions include Print Club London, Hackney Art Week, and a solo presentation at Aspex Portsmouth. Her work has been featured in Vogue UK, Financial Times, and ELLE Decoration, with commissions for Tate, H&M Home, and the Royal Academy of the Arts.
Anna Kalinitschenko treats colour as subject matter in its purest form. Based in Cologne, she constructs luminous compositions through transparent layers of acrylic paint, ink, and pastel on raw cotton canvas, where exposed areas of fabric allow light and spatial presence to function as active elements within each work. Her persistent inquiry into how colours interact, balance, and transform one another yields paintings that operate beyond representation, inviting viewers into intuitive, emotional encounters rather than prescribed narratives. Her work cultivates spaces for optimism, energy, and connection. Kalinitschenko has exhibited throughout Germany, Belgium, and the U.S., including Discovery Art Fair Cologne, l'AppArt Gallery Brussels, and ABV Gallery Atlanta. Herpaintings are held in private collections across Germany, the U.S., Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Ireland.
Together, these three artists demonstrate that colour and energy are not passive qualities - they are interventions. Whether Green is detonating Western iconography with tropical chromaticism, Kalinitschenko is engineering emotional atmospheres through layered transparency, or Hussain is tracing the body's quiet vitality through meticulous pattern and memorial blue, each practice insists that vibrancy is not merely decorative, but essential in translating our inner selves. Pulse celebrates the generative force of colour and the artists who wield it with intention, instinct, and abandon.
