New Forms, New Voices: Natali Touloupou

Preview

Natali Touloupou’s work serves as a bridge between traditional Cypriot handicrafts and contemporary digital design, driven by a desire to reconnect with her roots and highlight the enduring relevance of cultural heritage. She delves into the histories behind traditional patterns and names, viewing them as historical markers of how past generations perceived the world. Utilizing her background in graphic design, she creates digital compositions and a custom Fythkiótiko typeface, which she then translates into the physical realm through intricate embroidery and textile work.

By merging modern software with traditional needlework, Touloupou preserves the integrity of the original craft while filtering it through the lens of the present moment. Her practice demonstrates that heritage is not a static relic, but a living resource that can be reimagined using current tools and skills. Through this synthesis, she invites audiences to appreciate the stories embedded in these techniques and to see how tradition can evolve without losing its essence.

Natali Touloupou is a Cypriot-Australian graphic designer and textile artist. She studied Multimedia and Graphic Arts at the University of Technology in Limassol. Her practice centres on the promotion of cultural heritage, specifically the Fythkiótiko tapestries of Paphos, using natural fibres and repurposed fabrics to create detailed embroideries and digital works. Her art has been featured in international exhibitions, including ‘Revive’ in London (2023), the ‘Homo Faber Fellowship’ at Milan Design Week (2025), and the Larnaca Biennale (2025).

125 Space is proud to present New Forms, New Voices, a group exhibition showcasing the work of eleven emerging artists selected from a competitive open call that highlighted the vibrant and diverse talent currently shaping the local art scene.

As a platform committed to supporting emerging talent, 125 Space provides a professional context in which new artists can present their work and engage with collectors, curators, and the wider creative community. New Forms, New Voices reflects a dedicated interest in how these artists are redefining visual language through rigorous experimentation, material exploration, and critical engagement with contemporary conditions. While the selected works respond, both explicitly and intuitively, to urgent questions of identity, place, and cultural inheritance, they remain firmly open to broader global dialogues, demonstrating how new voices contribute to ongoing conversations within the international artistic community.
